Where We’re Going

When people have the means to choose the housing that is right for them, they are healthier, happier, and go on to lead more productive lives. This benefits the whole society.

Unfortunately, not all Nova Scotians have the ability to afford a home that meets their needs near the support network and services they require. From rising utility costs, increasing rent and other basic life necessities, getting a foot on the property ladder is becoming increasingly difficult; It is even more challenging for some individuals, such as recent graduates with a large student debt, lone parents, persons with disabilities, existing social housing tenants, and immigrants.

We strive to ensure that all Nova Scotians can live in a home that’s right for them, at a price they can afford, in a healthy, vibrant, and diverse community that offers the services, supports and opportunities they need.

We will get there by delivering innovative housing strategies that contribute to the overall health and well-being of Nova Scotians and the sustainable development of the province.

Over the coming months, Housing Nova Scotia will continue to work with the federal government and all our partners to ensure that we can take full advantage of the new National Housing Strategy for the benefit of Nova Scotians.
