Where We’re Going

When people have the means to choose the housing that is right for them, they are healthier, happier, and go on to lead more productive lives.  This benefits the whole society.

Unfortunately, not all Nova Scotians have the ability to afford a home that meets their needs near the support network and services they require. From rising utility costs, increasing rent and other basic life necessities, getting a foot on the property ladder is becoming increasingly difficult.  It is even more challenging for some individuals, such as recent graduates with a large student debt, lone parents, persons with disabilities, existing social housing tenants, and immigrants.

We strive to ensure that all Nova Scotians can live in a home that’s right for them, at a price they can afford, in a healthy, vibrant, and diverse community that offers the services, supports and opportunities they need.

We will get there by delivering innovative housing strategies that contribute to the overall health and well-being of Nova Scotians and the sustainable development of the province. Over the coming months and years, we will offer new programs to support a broad range of Nova Scotians, from all backgrounds and stages of life.

That’s why we’ve created Housing Nova Scotia. Housing Nova Scotia will allow us to focus our efforts and provide programs that better serve the needs of all Nova Scotians.
